Treasurer - Jose Morales

Jose, a San Jose State University alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, focused on Water Resourcing and Transportation Engineering during his undergrad. He is currently pursuing his Engineering-in-Training Certificate and plans to obtain his Professional Engineer license.

Jose graduated from San Jose State University in December 2021 and has since held various roles in the public sector. He began as a Water Resource Policy and Planning Engineering intern at Valley Water and was then offered a temporary position as an Assistant Civil Engineer for the Community Project Review Unit. After a year, he transitioned to the City of San Jose, where he started as an Engineer Technician II for Public Works and later became an Engineer I at San Jose‘s Mineta International Airport.

Jose actively supports his Latino community through involvement in various organizations. He held a vice president position for Sueños Club, which aided undocumented students with financial aid. His contributions earned him the outstanding student award from the Cabrillo Hispanic Affairs Council. At San Jose State University, he led the largest student event, Science Extravaganza, with the assistance of the Society of Latino Engineers and MAES. Presently, he serves as the treasurer of the Regional Bay Area MAES Professional Chapter.

In his spare time, Jose enjoys spending time with his family, friends, significant other, and their pet dog. He can be found outside getting some exercise either by hiking or traveling. When he’s not outside, he enjoys binge-watching his favorite Netflix shows, playing video games, and cooking.”

Secretary - Sabrina Valdovinos

Sabrina graduated from San Jose State in 2020 and obtained a bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology. Since graduating, she has worked as a sr. youth program leader for K-8 underrepresented Latino students with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula. Currently she works at Santa Clara University in the Silicon Valley Executive Center as a Program Coordinator for Diversity in Corporate Governance Institute. In her role, she supports the black and women corporate board readiness programs.

Sabrina has had the opportunity to volunteer for a few of Science Extravaganza events while she attended college. Although she was not in the STEM field, she took this opportunity in order to help Latino students learn about STEM.

Supporting underrepresented communities is what motivates Sabrina to continue working in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space.

V.P. of Outreach - Evelyn Alvarado

Evelyn recently graduated from San Jose State University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Computer Network System Management and a minor in Business.

While finishing her degree she started a summer internship with the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Technology. There she was extended as a Network Technician intern with the Fiber to Housing Project. She works alongside network engineers, project managers, and technicians to help provide free, fast-speed, and reliable internet to low-income families, seniors, and students in San Francisco.

Evelyn is very passionate about promoting higher education to those underrepresented throughout campuses. During her time as an undergrad, she was able to work as a mentor at the University of Southern California to help provide positive relationships and support and promote the STEM field to underrepresented high school students that want to go to college. Also, she was a member of on-campus organizations such as the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists and the Society of Women Engineers. She hopes to continue helping the Latinx community reach milestones with the MAES Bay Area Professional Chapter.

During her free time, Evelyn enjoys following her favorite music artist, going to concerts, reading, expressing her creativity through fashion, and going to the beach!
